Everything about HacktoberFest ✨

The month of October is here, and now is an excellent time to work on open source and try out new things because Hacktoberfest is coming up.

Hacktoberfest is a month-long challenge. It happens every year in the month of October, which is open to everyone and it marks the celebration of Open Source powered by Digital Ocean, Appwrite and Docker.

It was through hacktober fest that I started my Open Source journey, and I have been very consistent since then. Contributing to the community has helped me a lot so far. The opportunities that you get by just contributing to opensource is IMMENSE.

At the beginning of my career, I had trouble finding an internship/cracking any opportunities, so I decided to contribute to open source projects by joining several organizations, which later I used to crack a lot of opportunities under my experience.

Anyone who wants to start contributing to Open-source then, this opportunity is EXACTY for you. It's the biggest Open Source event that encourages newbies to participate in Open Source and create their first PR.

People who are new to programming might have a hard time understanding what a Hacktoberfest is or what open-source is.

The term "open-source" refers to code that is publicly accessible and allows for inspection, modification, and learning. You can use open source software for any purpose you want and collaborate with other developers.

So anyways, lets get back to Hacktober Fest!

How to Register?!

1) Well firstly you need to have a GitHub/GitLab Account, if you don't have one then what are you waiting for? Create it ASAP!

2) Register through Hacktober Fest website (the website is designed so beautifully), and verify you acount through GitHub or GitLab.

3) You are good to go! All you need to do is try finding good projects to contribute to! and make sure that you contribution is of good quality, and is not a SPAM. ;.;

Now,

There are a lot of repositories, which are made opensource, and have active issues to resolve. But you need to make sure that the repository comes under the HacktoberFest topic.

Now all you have to do is, Fork the repository, Clone it, make the required changes and make a PR!

Then what? Wait for the maintainer to approve your PR and merge it 😛

Thats it, you just have to make 4 valid PR, and then you will be eligible to recieve the HacktoberFest swag kit or you can plant a tree.

This is what i recieved last year 💕

This fest is mostly filled with people taking part for the free swag, but that's totally fine! Please refrain from spamming because that's totally a no-no.

It is true that we all come here for the swag, but stay for the community (I read it on Twitter, but can't remember who said it, but it is true!)
